Chairman Boris Jordan also believes a Democratic win in the US elections will be the tipping point. “Biden will be under pressure from the left wing of the Democratic party to move cannabis forward because of the social justice issues,” he said. There are clear connections between cannabis and racism. Cannabis legalization and decriminalization of other drugs for possession would improve social justice issues.
Earlier this year, US congressman Earl Blumenauer of Oregon said that American cannabis legalization was in a strong position. Others believed that legalization would come in 2019 then 2020, but those predictions fell flat.
So far, Biden has not committed to US cannabis legalization 2021. But then, he doesn’t have to. As mentioned above, he’ll likely feel the pressure from his party if he’s elected. But in terms of beating Trump, it’s unlikely that his position on cannabis would help.
